The Viandier of Taillevent
This volume is the first to present all four extant manuscripts of the Viandier de Taillevent. The texts of the 220 recipes are in their original French and a complete English translation is provided. Variants between the four manuscripts represent more than a century of modifications in gastronomic tastes and culinary practices in French seigneurial life. The commentary and notes trace the significance of these modifications and indicate the influence the Viandierexercised on more recent cookery books throughout Europe. This critical edition also includes a glossary and a bibliography. In addition, selected recipes have been adapted for modern use and arranged in a menu for six people.
This enchanting collection will cast a spell over colorists of all ages! Thirty mystical scenes crackle with awe and wonder -- and, of course, flowing robes, pointed hats, and crystal balls.

A Bomb in the Heart
A call late at night has Wahab springing into action. Despite a blinding snowstorm, an irritating bus driver, and a spinning wheel of worries, Wahab travels to his dying mother’s hospital room. A journey of two kinds, A Bomb in the Heart is about a young man’s relationship to his mother, the pain of loss, and about understanding the voice deep within.
Le Songe Du Vieil Pelerin
This French medieval text is now published in its entirety, accompanied by an introduction and extensive synopses in English. Philippe de Mezieres (1327-1405) was a French soldier, publicist and statesman who travelled widely through much of the Christian world and served a number of rulers, particularly the King of Cyprus and Charles V and VI of France. Throughout his life Philippe de Mezieres was obsessed by the ideal that the West must reform itself in the light of the Christian view of the good life and he urged all Christian rulers to join together in a final crusade to liberate the Holy Land and the eastern Christian empires. This is the underlying theme of Le Songe du Vieil Pelerin, Philippe de Mezieres' major work. It is divided into three parts: the first is a wide-ranging survey of the Christian world, the second an examination of the state of France and the third a study of the duties and requirements of authority. The style is highly allegorical but contains much personal observation and historical fact.
